Big Mama Thornton - Ball N' Chain [1965-1968]

Personnel includes: Big Mama Thornton (vocals); Buddy Guy, Fred McDowell (guitar); Muddy Waters Blues Band.
Tracks recorded between 1965 and 1968.

She can belt it out! Elvis made more money off of Thornton's "Hound Dog," but she does it better... and it isn't one of my favorite songs of hers, anyway. Barrel-chested, exuberant, and soulful, Big Mama sang a lot of great blues before she drank herself to death in the mid-1970s.
